Medical Marijuana Card Q & A

What is a medical marijuana card?

A medical marijuana card is issued by the state, and allows you access to cannabis products at over 100 dispensaries throughout Maryland. A medical marijuana card allows you to purchase up to 120 grams of marijuana, or 36 grams of concentrated THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, per month. Your doctor can recommend that you be authorized to buy more if necessary, though this is rare.

If you are a new patient, you must have a medical marijuana card from the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission as of January 1, 2019, while existing patients have a grace period until April 1, 2019 to obtain their cards.

Do I qualify for a medical marijuana card?

If you suffer from a chronic, debilitating, or progressive illness, then there is a chance that medical marijuana could help you relieve your symptoms and improve your quality of life. The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission is encouraged to approve anyone with diseases fitting this description, but their guidelines specifically include people suffering from:

  • Cachexia
  • Anorexia
  • Wasting syndrome
  • Severe pain
  • Chronic pain
  • Severe nausea
  • Seizures
  • Severe or persistent muscle spasms
  • Glaucoma
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Or another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective

If you suffer from any of the above, explore what options cannabis may provide for you.

How do I get a medical marijuana card?

Green Remedy Wellness, LLC, is a licensed medical marijuana evaluation center, so helping you navigate the path to treatment is the practice’s top service. If you are suffering from one of the above conditions, or any other severe or chronic illness or injury, follow these simple steps to qualify for medical cannabis.

Register online with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC)

Before you start, gather your relevant personal information, as you’ll only be given one-timed chance to complete and submit the form. You’ll need:

  • A valid, accessible email account
  • The last four digits of your social security number
  • An electronic copy of your government-issued photo ID and proof of Maryland residence. For more information on what kinds of ID are acceptable, check the MMCC website.
  • An electronic copy of a clear photograph of your face taken in the last six months

Once you’ve submitted this information and created an account with the MMCC, you’ll be sent a confirmation email to verify your email account. Until you confirm through a link in this email, your registration will not be considered complete and your case will not be reviewed by the MMCC.

Turnaround time for the MMCC varies greatly due to the volume of requests, but the MMCC asks that you refrain from calling or emailing about your status until at least 45 days have passed.

Visit Green Remedy Wellness, LLC, for your written certification

Once you’ve been approved by the MMCC, you’ll need a physical evaluation to confirm your eligibility for medical cannabis. Bring any medical records relevant to the condition you’d like to treat with medical cannabis, including MRIs or other imaging results, prescription bottles or anything that you can use to prove your condition. This evaluation can’t be done by just any doctor, only by practices that are licensed and approved by the MMCC, like Green Remedy Wellness, LLC.

Once your evaluation is complete, you’ll receive a written certification, which you can take with your ID to any of the 100-plus dispensaries in Maryland to obtain medical cannabis.

If you are interested in setting up an evaluation for medical cannabis, or if you have questions about the application process, call Green Remedy Wellness, LLC, today or make an appointment online.
